There was certainly no disappointing finish to this football tournament, The BWCI Guernsey Mini-Soccer Festival. The aftermath of England's dismal World Cup campaign was erased after last weekend's Footes Lane football frenzy.
This fantabulous festival of footie has once again proved to be a runaway success. An amalgamation of organiser Steve Dewsnip's hard work, a handful of benevolent volunteers and a host of sponsors brought the cream of UK and Jersey youth football to play Guernsey's elite junior teams.
The line up included Everton, Fulham, Tamarside Juniors and St. Clements to name but a few. We had the fortune of watching a stunning display of attacking football from Fulham which belied their years and a nail biting penalty shoot out between Glasgow Rangers and Vale Rec which would have made even the German national team go weak at the knees with nerves.
As a sponsor for some three years now The Potting Shed supports the festival by designing the identity and supporting collateral for the event. The brand is updated each year and it's current guise is heavily influenced by the Mexico '86 logo. The supporting programme, posters and website, all spin off from this brand and hopefully help to spread the word of this fantastic tournament.
Congratulations to all those who took part and well done to the eventual winners Everton who took last years champs out in the final 1-0. And a big shout must also go out to Steve Dewsnip for pulling off another hugely successful festival.
We only wish we had this tournament around when we were that age...
Bring on 2011.
