There have certainly been plenty of changes in the studio in recent months with our numbers swelling from two to three and then to five, all in the space of a six month period. This growth is a direct response to our increased work flow and our commitment to progressing as a creative group.
So without further ado let's introduce the new members of Team Potting Shed:
Al Mitchell - Creative Director
In August last year Managing Director Jay Aylmer and Account Director Ed Prow welcomed a new partner to the business. Alastair Mitchell, who has had close ties to the company for several years returned to the island from Australia to assume the role of Creative Director. Al brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge having worked in the design industry for over a decade.
After graduating from Central St Martins he went on to work for some of London's most prestigious agencies before moving to Australia in 2000 where he assumed the role of Creative Director at one of Australasia's largest publishing houses, Morrison Media.
There he oversaw the production of a stable of 12 titles as well as designing the group's flagship title. In 2009, having worked remotely with The Potting Shed on several projects, Al moved back to Guernsey when the opportunity to join the company arose.
“Having worked along side Jay at other companies in the past I jumped at the opportunity to come on board at The Potting Shed as a partner. To find a company where design is truly at its core is surprisingly rare in our industry and it's the level of creative collaboration across the team that makes coming to work every day an absolute joy.”
The Potting Shed were thrilled when Charlotte Barnes joined the team in January. Both Jay and Al had worked with her on a number of occasions in the past and the opportunity to work with one of the island's most respected and talented creatives again was a massive boost to the company. After graduating from Bath Spa University with First Class Honours Degree (Graphic Design), Charlotte started her career as a junior creative at KWL and went on to become head of the Guernsey studio in the late nineties. In 1999 she went solo and started Small Limited with a highly talented and creative team.
Since 2006 Charlotte has been working on a freelance basis with a variety of agencies and private clients. She has substantial experience in branding and positioning and specialises in copywriting and concept development. She also works as a part-time tutor in the College of Further Education’s Art and Design Department.
“I am really chuffed to be getting my own workbench at The Shed! I have worked alongside the guys for many years and the opportunity to become more integral to the team was too good to pass up. The team’s approach is wonderfully simple: do great work for great clients.”
Tom Langford was also a designer with whom most of The Potting Shed team had worked with over the years.
With over a decade of experience in design and production, Tom is one of those rare creatures who is not only a top-flight creative but also exceptionally organised! He brings with him a wealth of technical knowledge in both the print and online arenas.
Tom has worked for a number of the island's top agencies and The Potting Shed are thrilled to welcome him onboard as Studio Director.
“This industry is built on ideas and passion and The Potting Shed have both in spades. The company has really proved itself over the past year or so and I'm really happy to be part of the team. Here’s to a very exciting 2010.”
