BOOK
The Painted Man
Peter V Brett
This is a pure, unbridled heavy-weight ‘Fantasy’ book by one of the genres strongest story-tellers, Peter V Brett. The book follows three POV characters from childhood to maturity, in a world of chaos where demons reap havoc on humanity once the sun goes down and how ancient ‘painted wards’ are used to protect the world from dusk until dawn. It was written by Brett, post 9/11, as he and his family where caught up in the chaos in New York as he looked down on the carnage and destruction from his tower block. It should be, and will be the next ‘Game of Thrones’ series.
A fan of The Painted Man made a promo video for the book… low budget but awesome, and shows the commitment of this books die-hard fans

FILM
The Lost Boys
Joel Schumacher
A 1980’s classic set in the imaginary Californian town of Santa Carla, where vampires rule the night. This is an iconic film that everyone should have watched, and if not… shame on you! The film stars Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Getz (my childhood crush) and the two Corey’s…. Need I say more? Yes, because the soundtrack also includes such titans as INXS, Echo & the Bunnymen and Jimmy Barnes! “Sleep all day, party all night, never grow old, never die!”

SERIES
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Rob McElhenny
There’s a reason why this dark comedy has broken the records for the longest running live action sitcom in American TV history, having just been renewed for its 15th season. The series is set in a down-trodden Irish bar in South Philadelphia, which is owned and run by four ridiculously dysfunctional and narcissistic friends (The Gang) and Frank (who is played by Danny DeVito - and is potentially the father to one or more of ‘The Gang’). Some of my all time favourite TV scenes come from the twisted minds of ‘Always Sunny’. If you want a snapshot of the comedy genius of the series, watch the ‘Chardee MacDenis: The Game of Games’ episode from Season 7. This is often my ‘go-to’ happy place.

DOCUMENTARY
Street Food: Asia
David Gelb
This series is one of those rare gems that gives you an incredible insight into pure excellence within different and unusual circumstances. It documents the world of nine of Asia's best and most highly regarded street food vendors. The series takes you through Delhi, Seoul, Ho Chi Minh City, Bangkok and more. It follows the life, aspiration and success of each vendor (with interviews with world-renowned food critics), and even shows one of the vendors getting a coveted Michelin Star.

Pixies
This is single-handily one of the greatest ‘start-to-finish’ albums of all time! If you haven’t heard of them, the Pixies are an American alternative rock band in the 80s and 90s. They are fronted by the larger than life, Black Francis, and went on to influence acts such as Nirvana, Radiohead, and Smashing Pumpkins.
