Float my road!
6 March 2018

A zebra crossing in Icelandic village Ísafjörður uses the power of illusion to increase road safety.
The crossing is painted as a smart optical illusion, giving the suggestion that it’s floating above the asphalt. The white stripes resemble a roadblock, which catches the attention of drivers and makes them slow down.
The Icelandic traffic commissioner Ralf Trylla came up with the idea after seeing something similar in New Delhi, India. He hopes to reduce the number of accidents by using this clever safety measure. In addition, the optical illusion is also a work of art.
Trylla made his vision become reality in collaboration with the street painting company Vegmálun GÍH.
A safety measure with a cool look? We like!
